From India With Love

Well, this is it.  We arrived in this wonderful country 10 days ago and are about to bid it farewell.  It is, of course, a bittersweet departure, as we have grown quite fond of life here. Our visit here has given us an appreciation for India that we did not have before.  Everyone knows it is an overcrowded country with a population of over 1 billion (and growing), that it doesn't have same the hygiene standards as the US, and that there is much poverty and hunger here.  What most people "looking into" India do NOT know is that it is a beautiful country with beautiful people.  The children here laugh and play just like the children you know.  The adults are hardworking, generally carry a positive attitude, and are willing to help anyone they meet.  The lifestyle here is somewhat hurried, but family is valued and people do what they need to in order to take care of their spouse and/or child.  Sound familiar?  I think we it comes right down to it, people all over the world are more similar than we all realize.  We might eat, speak, work, and play in different ways, but we all want the best for the ones we love. 

I still can't believe what we have been a part of during our stay in India.  We were able to visit the Children's Home, where we met beautiful, loving children that are happy with the life they lead, the only life they know.  We were able to see people working in villages to sell handicrafts they spend all day making so they can bring in about $300 per year.  We were able to venture around Delhi, see the slums, the mansions, and everything in between.  We saw beggars, wealthy dignitaries, and "regular" people like the ever-so-popular tuk-tuk driver.  We learned how driving works in Delhi and how to cross a street, frogger-style, where cars, buses, and motorcycles weave crazily in and out of traffic.  What an experience this has been!
