Conquering the time change
We went to bed around 1am (2:30pm at home) thinking that we wouldn't be able to sleep. We woke up at 5am, and forced ourselves to go back to sleep and then re-awoke at 10:30am - just as breakfast was ending! Ok, this is not a crisis but anyone who knows us knows that we DO NOT skip meals and certainly not our complimentary breakfast! Jeremy threw on some clothes to rush down to grab some food to bring back to the room. Ahhhh... such an American way of thinking. The phone rings and he calls to let me know that they are insisting that he sit and eat and when he said he was going to go back to the room to get me, they insisted that he call instead. So I dressed quickly and tamed my hair and went to find him. I found Jeremy sitting in the hotel restaurant with numerous plates and bowls of food of every color. Knowing my husband, I assumed that he got started dipping and then realized how much food there was and it was just too late to turn back. Then I heard the rest of the story and learned that one of the restaurant staff walked through the buffet line with him, pointing at the foods. If Jeremy didn't scoop one of the items he would say, "You don't want that??" And since our number 1 goal right now is to not offend, Jeremy said, "Yes, of course I want that!" and that is how we ended up with an obscene amount of food. And it goes without saying that we figured the only thing that would be more offensive that not taking the food would be not eating it. Fortunately, it was all wonderful... lots of potato dishes - curried potato soup, potato pancakes along with fried noodles, Indian stuffing, chicken sausage, and mini spring rolls. We had pineapple and watermelon juices, coffee, and an assortment of pastries with pink flavored butter. We're so stuffed. The last few bites took force and Jeremy tried the trick where he insists that he ate half already so the other half is mine, but I used the excuse that he uses when he wants more than half of his share of dessert - he's got 20-30 pounds on me so I should not be expected to eat an entire half of the meal. It worked this time. We fly out to Bhubaneswar (Orissa) this evening. So we're off to walk off our meal and go shopping. This time tomorrow we'll be at the Children's Home with Jada!
